Spring greetings, everyone. I would like to give you a short update on items we have added to our online store. First, however, I wanted to let you know about a very helpful website for those who wish to practice or use natural medicine. The website is greenmedinfo.com, and it is a compilation of studies on most of the major natural medicines in use today. You can search by either specific medicine or specific condition for abstracts of all the published studies on your subject. This site makes doing research much quicker and easier, and it reveals just how much positive research has been done on many natural medicines and treatments.
The new additions or changes to our store come through a combination of personal experience and research. For example, in a past blog I wrote about the benefits of lecithin for a variety of diseases, including colitis, atherosclerosis and neuro-degenerative diseases. Lecithin is a mixture of the main phospholipids in our cell membranes, which is probably why it has a positive effect on so many conditions. If these integral components of our cell membranes are not available either through endogenous production or through our diet, our cell membranes become stiff, brittle and dysfunctional. The outcome is the various illnesses listed above.
Lecithin’s main phospholipid, called phoshotidylcholine, is by far the most important of these fats to provide in the diet or as a supplement. Also, pure phosphotidylcholine, in its micellar form, is better absorbed into the bloodstream and therefore more effective for atherosclerosis prevention and the treatment of neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s than lecithin. This is why I am offering phosphatidylcholine, called Phoschol, in addition to the usual lecithin, on our site. If you check out the studies on pure, micellar phosphatidylcholine on greenmedinfo.com, I think you will be impressed with the voluminous research on this medicine. The usual dose of Phoschol for prevention is two capsules a day; for treatment, it’s usually two capsules twice a day.
The second new product is our Beet-Root Juice Powder, which is made for us and sold through the Human Heart, Cosmic Heart website. I have written a lot about the benefits of beets and beet-juice powder for supporting normal blood pressure and improving digestion. The components in beets that seem to be responsible for these effects are the nitric oxide precursors and the betaine. Nitric oxide is a potent vasodilator (meaning, it relaxes blood vessels) akin to the pharmaceutical drug nitroglyceride used with heart patients. Beet juice is a well-studied and much safer version of this pharmaceutical drug. The betaine in beet juice thins the bile, making its flow easier. This result aids digestion, especially for fat digestion. The dose for Beet-Root Juice Powder is 1 teaspoon in water twice a day for prevention and up to 1 tablespoon in water twice a day if you have elevated blood pressure.
Please also check out our other website, drcowansgarden.com, for more information on what the Cowan family is up to these days.
May you enjoy the growing warmth and burgeoning life all around us during this beautiful Spring season.
